How it plays

Thirteen cards each, four players, spades always trump.
Everyone calls the number of tricks they expect to take.
Make your call and you score it; beat it and each extra trick is worth a tenth.
Miss it by one and you lose the entire call, not the difference.
Five deals decide it, so a bad call early follows you around.

Or practise against bots

Playing alone deals you straight in against three bots. They call and play by the same rules you do, including having to beat the trick when they can, so a careless call gets punished exactly as it would at a real table. It is the quickest way to learn how many tricks a hand is really worth before you play people.

How a round scores

Calls run from 1 to 13. Make your call and you score it, plus 0.1 for every trick over; fall short by even one and you lose the whole call. Five deals make a match, and the highest total wins.

Callbreak in Nepal, India and Bangladesh

In Nepal it is usually written as one word, Callbreak (sometimes Call Brake), and it is the game families sit down to over Dashain and Tihar. In India it is more often Call Break, and in places Lakdi or Ghochi; in Bangladesh it is Call Break too. The rules here are the ones the popular mobile apps use — a minimum call of 1, extra tricks worth a tenth, five deals to a match — so it plays the way you already know, whichever name you grew up with.

Can I play Call Break online with friends?: Yes. Open a room, share the invite, and your friends join in their browser. Two of you is enough — bots take the other seats.
Do I need to download an app?: No. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer, and you can start a game without making an account.
Can two or three people play?: The table always has four seats, so two or three friends play with bots filling the rest. The scoring is the same.
Is it free? Is there any money involved?: It is free, and there is no betting and no real money — points only, the way it is played at home.
