What is Sweep?
Sweep (also called Seep) is a four-player partnership card-capturing game from the Indian subcontinent. Two teams of two compete to capture valuable cards by matching values, aiming to reach 100 points first.
How many players do you need?
Exactly four, in two fixed partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other. You can also play solo online against three AI opponents.
Is there a trump suit in Sweep?
No. Sweep has no trump and no following suit — every turn is about matching a card's value against the floor, not about suit or rank order.
Is capturing mandatory?
No. Capturing is always a choice. You may leave a matching capture on the floor on purpose, setting a trap for a later turn.
What is a build?
A build is a pile you create by combining your played card with floor cards so the pile totals a specific value — one you must already hold a second matching card for. Any player can later add to a build or capture it, not just whoever started it.
Can I capture an opponent's build?
Yes. A build is a shared, visible commitment on the table, not a private one — whichever seat holds a matching card can capture it when their turn comes, regardless of who built it.
What happens when everyone's hand is empty?
If the stock still has cards, every player is dealt 4 more and play continues. Once the stock itself runs out, the deal ends and both teams' captured piles are scored.
How is a deal scored?
Every spade is worth 1 point, the 10 of diamonds is worth 2, the 2 of clubs is worth 1, and every ace is worth 1 — these stack, so the ace of spades is worth 2. A capture that clears the floor entirely also earns a 1-point sweep bonus.
How do you win a match?
Points carry over across deals. The first team to reach 100 points wins the match.
Is Sweep the same as the British game also called Sweep?
No — despite the shared name, this is a different, unrelated game. This Sweep is the Indian card-capturing game, part of the same family as Cassino.
